Cheniere progresses commissioning of seventh Corpus Christi expansion train

Cheniere Energy, Inc. (NYSE: LNG) has begun commissioning activities on the seventh and final midscale liquefaction train at its Corpus Christi Stage 3 expansion project in Texas, marking another key milestone toward full completion of the seven-train buildout by the end of 2026.

According to regulatory filings with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Cheniere initiated startup and commissioning operations on Train 7, including the thermal oxidizer and hot oil furnace, in late June 2026. Industry observers note that Cheniere and its EPC partner Bechtel have historically achieved first LNG production within four to six weeks of commissioning startup on prior Stage 3 trains.

Stage 3 Project Overview

The Corpus Christi Stage 3 (CCL Stage 3) expansion consists of seven midscale trains using Chart Industries technology. It will add more than 10 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefaction capacity — approximately 1.3 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) nameplate — bringing the total permitted capacity at the Corpus Christi facility to more than 25 mtpa (nominal ~3.1 Bcf/d once complete). This positions Corpus Christi as the second-largest U.S. LNG export terminal after Sabine Pass.

Recent progress on the trains includes:

  • Trains 1–4: Substantial completion achieved throughout 2025.
  • Train 5: Substantial completion in March 2026.
  • Train 6: Substantial completion in June 2026.
  • Train 7: Commissioning underway as of late June 2026; full substantial completion expected by year-end 2026.

Once all seven trains are operational, the incremental feedgas demand from Train 7 alone is estimated at roughly 186 MMcf/d.

Link to Latest Earnings and Production Outlook

This commissioning progress directly supports Cheniere’s raised production forecast highlighted in its first-quarter 2026 earnings release on May 7, 2026. The company reported record LNG exports of 187 cargoes (688 TBtu) in Q1 2026, up significantly year-over-year.

  • Key Q1 2026 financial highlights:Revenues: $5.87 billion
  • Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA: $2.33 billion
  • Distributable Cash Flow: ~$1.67 billion
  • GAAP net loss: ~$3.5 billion (primarily driven by non-cash unrealized derivative losses)

Cheniere raised its full-year 2026 Consolidated Adjusted EBITDA guidance to a range of $7.25–7.75 billion (from the prior $6.75–7.25 billion range). The upward revision reflects higher expected LNG production volumes (including contributions from CCL Stage 3) and stronger market margins. Management expects Trains 6 and 7 to reach substantial completion by the end of 2026, contributing to a company-wide production target in the 51–53 mtpa range.

Cheniere President and CEO Jack Fusco stated: “2026 is off to an excellent start, thanks to the Cheniere team’s commitment to safety, operational excellence and seamless execution. We are raising our 2026 financial guidance as a result of an increase in our LNG production forecast and higher market margins for the year…”Broader U.S. LNG Export Context for 2026Cheniere’s Corpus Christi expansion is a major contributor to the ongoing wave of new U.S. LNG capacity coming online in 2026. U.S. LNG export capacity stood at roughly 12–14 Bcf/d in 2024–early 2025 and is projected to rise meaningfully through the year as multiple projects ramp up.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) and other forecasters project average U.S. LNG exports in the range of 16.4–17 Bcf/d for 2026, with further growth into 2027 as additional trains and facilities (including remaining Golden Pass trains and others) come online.

Cheniere remains one of the largest and most reliable U.S. LNG exporters, with its Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi facilities together representing a substantial share of total U.S. capacity. The completion of CCL Stage 3 will further strengthen the company’s position amid robust global demand for flexible, reliable American LNG supplies.

Cheniere continues to execute its brownfield growth strategy efficiently, staying ahead of schedule and on budget on the Stage 3 project while advancing other potential expansions.
